Anita Blake Series by Laurell K Hamilton

Today, I am going to review one of the best book series in MY opinion.

Do you like Werewolves, WereTigers, Wereleopards, Vampires, and kickass people???

Then this series is for you.

I was first introduced to this series by my brother and I have never looked back, instead I sit and count the days until a new book is going to join the rest. And in the mean time I re-read the series that is already out over and over.

Laurell K Hamilton has packed so much romance, action, and yes even sex into such a wonderful series that you can't help but fall in love with the characters. You can't help but feel the emotions as raw as they do in the books and shed a few tears (maybe more than a few) When someone gets hurts or worse.

This series is about a woman named Anita Blake, who starts off as an animator slash Vampire Hunter. What does that mean?, well it means she wakes the dead. Brings them back to life, briefly, so family can say a final goodbye, or have their say in a court case, or just to find out what happened, but she also slays the dead. Brings bad little vampires to justice and helps the police on cases involving the paranormal when they are being bad children. She starts off as a typical woman who is NOT a fan of the undead, and would never get involved with a paranormal being of any kind, yet, as the series goes on, she finds herself giving her heart away to more than one.

First it's Richard Zeeman, a sexy, hot bodied, yummy werewolf who steals her heart. Then she falls for Jean Claude, the Master Vampire who also steals her heart, among other things *wink wink*.
Along the lines, or in this case books, she finds herself falling deeply in love with both men and knows she has to make a choice but really doesn't want to.

As you read, you find that she falls for more than just them, and winds up welcoming more men (so to speak) into her heart, and into her life (not to mention her bed). Enter Micah the sexy Wereleopard, and Nathaniel the ever lovely Wereleopard. Jason the hottie Werewolf, who doesn't steal her heart like the others, but in the end finds his own special place in her heart and life. She soon adds Tigers, to her bevy of lovers not to mention a few more sweet, sexy Vampires.

Her best friend in the world though, is a fellow Vampire Hunter named Edward, who we find out later actually has two lives he lives. Although they don't start off on the best of terms, or as the best of friends, they are always there when the other needs. As the series goes on, you 509 will find that their friendship becomes one of great trust and respect, and yes even love, in their own way.

Every time I pick up one of these books I can never put it down until the whole thing is finished, and even then it's only to pick up the next one and keep reading.  I highly recommend this series to anyone who loves the paranormal and loves a good book packed with everything you could ever ask for and more.

The series has also been adapted into a graphic novel series, that this girl, would LOVE to get her hands on and add to my collection.  I hope you enjoyed my review, and I really hope you enjoy the series.

“My name is Anita Blake. Vampires call me “The Executioner”. What I call them isn’t repeatable.
Ever since the Supreme Court granted the undead equal rights, most people think vampires are just ordinary folks with fangs. I know better. I’ve seen their victims. I carry the scars…
But now a serial killer is murdering vampires—and the most powerful bloodsucker in town wants me to find the killer… “
“In a world where vampires, zombies and werewolves have been declared legal citizens of the United States, Anita Blake is an “animator” – a profession that involves raising the dead for mourning relatives. But Anita is also known as a fearsome hunter of criminal vampires, and she’s often employed to investigate cases that are far too much for conventional police. But as Anita gains the attention of the vampire masters of her hometown of St Louis, she also risks revealing an intriguing secret about herself – the source of her unusual strength and power.”

Review:

This series has by far captured my attention. I literally watch and wait for the next book to come out. Mason and Darcy, are one of my favorite couples to read about and no matter what I know reading anything involving them, is going to bring a smile to my face, and possible shed a few tears along the way.
Testing Fate did just that...as well as leaving me in such a place, where my heart is pacing in my chest waiting to find out more....I mean, Belinda left it on such a cliffhanger that I might as well go gliding until the next book.
In the third book we learn if love can find a way, no matter what. Through any obstacle and withstand any trial, as long as you love someone you can make it through....or can you. Surely you don't think I am going to give it away do you....I know better than that.  You are gonna have to buy the book to find out for yourself.
But believe me when I say you are gonna want to buy all 3 books and start from the beginning. If you miss ANY of this series, you are going to regret it in more ways than one because one day these book will be looked back upon and still be talked about in the future.
The trials and lessons that Darcy goes through just to be with the one person she can never see herself without is heart wrenching at times, but also can push you into believing in true love and happy ever after.
The stories are filled with such feeling, such emotion that you can't help but feel what they feel, go through what they do as you r reading it. Not to mention the characters are so well written you will find yourself falling in love with them more than anything, and by the end of book one you THINK you have a favorite, but that can all change as you read more....lol
Do yourself a favor and get this series. You will not regret it and you will definitely be saying thanks.

And for the best part I have included an interview with Belinda Boring herself, I hope you enjoy, and remember get the books!!!

Interview:

1) What is the working title of your current/next book?

*grins* The current book I’m working on is my first New Adult contemporary romance called Loving Liberty. It’s scheduled for release next month (July 2013) and I’m beyond excited to share it with everyone! It’s also the first book I’ve written that isn’t paranormal or urban fantasy, so I can’t wait to see what readers think.

My next books I’m working on are Forever Changed (#4, in the Mystic Wolves series) and Jagged Edges (another New Adult contemporary) I’m planning on them being ready by the end of this year. I have a few other titles I’m outlining and brainstorming on, as well. It’s never ending!

But, we’re here talking about my last release, Testing Fate. It’s the third book in the Mystic Wolves series, and my favorite to date!

2) Where did the idea come from?

I can’t remember how I came up with the idea for the Fates testing Darcy and Mason. Most times, story ideas come when I’m driving because my brain isn’t being bombarded with a ton of thoughts. I also have a magic shower *grins* I’ll get a spark of inspiration and by the time I’m finished, the story is all laid out and ready to write.

3) What genre does your book fall under?

Testing Fate is a paranormal romance—with werewolves, vampires, and witches … oh my! Haha sorry, I couldn’t resist. In this book, you’ll also find the Greek Fates causing trouble.

4) What actors would you choose to play the part of your characters in a movie rendition?

I’d LOVE to see these actors:
Mason – Chris Pine

Darcy – Emma Stone

Devlin – Matt Bomer

Daniel – Tom Hardy

5) What is the one-sentence synopsis of your series?

That’s tricky because there’s so much involved with the Mystic Wolves. How about … Their love defies all odds.

6) How did you come up with your characters??

Darcy came from a dream I had a few years ago, the reason behind the entire series. What usually happens is a story idea surfaces, and then characters come and introduce themselves. It’s more of a feeling than an actual planning session. They tell me their names; show me their personalities, and what they look for. I then write it all down and go from there. With Mason and Devlin, they were extremely swoony, flirting with me from the get go!

7) How long did it take you to write the first draft?

It took me a few months to get Testing Fate completed. Because it was an emotional story to write, there were times where I struggled to capture what was needed, and real life issues slowed the process down as well. I’m a big believer in not rushing something just to rush it. I want each of my stories to be the best they can be—full of emotion, swoon, and my-gosh-I-can’t-put-this-down excitement. I have the best readers in the world. I want them to have a memorable experience each time they pick up my books to read.

8) What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

Hmmm, I know readers have compared the Mystic Wolves series to the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs, The Otherworld series by Kelley Armstrong, and some say Twilight by Stephenie Meyer.

9) Who or what inspired you to write this book?

I love my Mystic Wolves so continuing the series was an incredible incentive. I’m so grateful to readers and friends who have claimed Mason, Darcy, Daniel, Devlin, and even Vlad, as their own and asked for more. I was terrified when I published the first book in this series, worried no one would enjoy it, so it’s blown me away how excited everyone gets over each book. That’s what inspires me!

In general, though, my husband, best friend Lacey, and a trust confidante are the ones who first inspired and encouraged me to write. I can’t imagine what my life would be like if I hadn’t listened!

10) What else about the book might pique the reader’s interest?

It’s full of SWOON! I love writing romance, and the relationship between Mason and Darcy is EPIC. There’s nothing they won’t do for each other and it’s in Testing Fate, that their love is put through the refiner’s fire. It’s the book you’ll find yourself cheering them on—laughing, crying, and sighing happily. I’m known for twists and turns that keep readers on the edge of their seats!

Blood Rose by Jacquelynn Gagne

Synopsis:

It’s true no one can out run Death. But Death doesn’t always want your existence. In Lianna’s case wants her mortality.
Long have Lianna’s dreams been a window into another time. A place that is as magnificent as it is dark. Frightened and weary from the physical toll the nightmares take on her body she turns to her psychic friend for guidance, which results in prophetic visions of Lianna’s death.
Mercenaries come after Lianna to stop her from fulfilling her fate. A destiny at her beloved’s side while rediscovering the real magic within her. Facing demise brought down on her by the hands of the mercenaries, the power of love offers her a new life as a vampire which ultimately fulfills the same epic fate the murderous villains fought to keep her from.

Interview:

1) What is the working title of your current/next book?
New Blood will be out in April of 2014 book 2 of the Blood Saga. I plan to publish another book this year but we haven’t decided which one.

2) Where did the idea come from?
I honestly couldn’t say. It just comes to me and I write.

3) What genre does your book fall under?
Paranormal

4) What actors would you choose to play the part of your characters in a movie rendition?
Ohhh I havent been asked this one yet.  Wentworth Miller, from Prison Break as Damien. Or Channing Tatum. Mila Kunis as Lianna.

5) What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
Death doesn’t always want your eternal sleep- Sometimes Death just wants your eternity.

6) Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
Represented by Midnight Hour Publishing

7) How long did it take you to write the first draft?
Ohhhh a couple months. I don’t really recall. Book 3’s first draft just took 6 weeks.

8) What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
I would say… True Blood meets Dan Brown.

9) Who or what inspired you to write this book?
A movie. I won’t say which one because my primary thought was, I could do better. haha

10) What else about the book might pique the reader’s interest?
There’s a lot of spirituality in my book and I hope people follow that. It’s not just a love story this is about someone’s spiritual awakening and accepting herself and building herself into a woman she herself can respect.

Review:
Damien is an extremely good looking guy who comes into her work every say, always sits in her section and pretty much has an obsession with her.  Yet, they have barely ever talked.  Then he starts working there.  Things go from there.  He drives her home from work one night, and wouldn’t you know it, over time she falls for him…lol

One night Damien is out of town and Lianna is attacked, he world unravels fast from that night on .  She finds stuff out about her new bf that she never imagined.
She gets brought into a world and a family that she never thought existed and becomes, herself, one of them. Little by little her life falls apart, she gains a family, loses herself in the meantime, finds out stuff she never would have dreamed..well……you need to read the series to find out more…lol

Excerpt:
There was an alley to the right. Too small for the car, or could he follow? Would it be a dead end and he’d have me cornered? It was my only chance. I lunged for its opening.
My knee gave as my foot twisted off the curb sending me stumbling forward. My arms thrust out instinctively. I landed snapping my wrist back. They hadn’t softened the blow to my face as I hit the cold wet concrete.
Blood spattered from my nose and mouth. My lungs were too fatigued to even muster a scream. Instead this sickened pathetic whimper gurgled out through the stream of blood.
As I lay there, trying to muster enough will to get up, the tires squealed to a stop right next to me. My ears rang in a high-pitched echo combined with the sound of my blood rushing in my ears. “Anna!”
My whole body shook violently when I heard a rough baritone voice scream my name in an intense rage. There was no way I could run from him anymore. Would I die here? Would he take me somewhere else to prolong my suffering? How long would it take?
Another dark thought. Is this what Neesa and her mother had seen?
Futilely my eyes closed. If I had to be conscious, I refused to watch my own death. “Anna! Look at me!” One hand held onto my shoulder turning me slowly as another hand carefully took a hold of my chin, tilting it up and making me cough on my own blood.
“No.” Worthlessly defiant. I gurgled coughing on the blood filling my mouth relentlessly.
“Alright. Just hang on. I’m going to move you, okay,” his voice filled with laughter. Though weak and painful, it flooded with the sound of relief.
“No!” The scream was weak and sprayed blood as I spoke. My hand shot up defensively swiping at his face to try to push him away from me. The hand at my chin released to take my wrist gently.
